Artist, poet, sculptor and local Brighton Beach identity, Peter Donnelly is a coastal dweller who keeps a constant eye on the weather and tide. With only a rake and a staff he creates large-scale ephemeral sand art at Christchurch’s New Brighton beach. Working within the confines of the tide, Peter moves fast to complete each work. “It’s birth, life and death really. I bring something to life, and at the end of 3-4 hours it’s gifted and goes to the sea.”
